Specific team assignments Thursday

Morning Video teams - 2 people each: (we have specific instructions ... will post soon)
  1. Going east from the museum on the north side of Wilshire
  2. Going east from the museum on the south side of Wilshire
  3. Going west on the  south side of Wilshire
  4. North on the west side of Fairfax
  5. North on the east side of Fairfax (mostly businesses on corner of 3rd and Fairfax
  6. South of the museum (not on Wilshire)
  7. Specific consulate targets (Tim and Melody)
Susan and Burt are reaching out to an insider at Park LaBrea to get their video

Afternoon Video teams - we are assuming that many places will require a follow-up; "manager not here", "have to call HQ" ... blah blah blah, so we will probably require teams to go back in the afternoon.

School Teams (two people each).
Go to the school, find the boss, give them flyers, they will probably volunteer to post them at entrances, etc., if not, maybe suggest it.  (we want them posted where the parents come in and out of the school).
We are figuring out the specific schools for the teams now.

Park Teams
I know we have covered these parks before, but it is useful to do it again.  We're going to change the emphasis a bit from a flyer concentration to look in the bushes concentration.  Especially look in places that someone might go to hide, or go into accidentally, get frustrated and just stop.  This is not to say "don't hand out flyers", it is more just to really look in the hard to see places.
  1.  Pan Pacific Park - I would like to ask 4 people to meet here, self organize, and go through the park
  2. La Cienega Park and the green spaces around San Vicente and McCarthy Vista - a single two person team should be able to do this
  3. Hancock Park -ugh ... I will take as many people as we have "left over" to self organize and go through Hancock Park
Phone teams
We're not organized on this yet (actually, we may be, but I lost the thread) will post soon.

  2. For Schools - many/most schools communicate with parents via email or webpage. Please tell them that the electronic version of the flyer is available online on this blog. Thx.

  5. From Mitch Mayeda today:

For some reason I am unable to publish to the blog, so I am hoping that you will pass this along to the group. I was able to get to the Canoga Park “Shelter” today. I left flyers and spoke to the manager there. It is not really a shelter, but a resource/food bank that is a donation point and is used by the homeless and less fortunate in the area. I explained Nancy's situation to Gonzalo, the manager there, and he was happy to post and pass along the flyers. He said that he would make copies and give them to the drivers who distribute food and clothing to various areas where the homeless are.

  6. I think it's extremely important to get LACMA to release their security footage to the public. With that, the news stations would be much more inclined to report, and it could help paint a better picture of what Nancy was wearing and headed. If LACMA doesn't release this it's irresponsible, and I will re-think our membership. There should be more than one sighting of her on video, and whatever they have should be made public, even if they have to blur some other people's faces.

When there is ANY footage, start a YouTube channel and upload all of it there. Include those videos on this site, and send the links to everyone at media. I'm happy to help make calls or contact news organizations as it's part of what I do for a living. My email is benlashes@gmail.com

  7. Not sure of the weather conditions there but if it's been cool at night someone may have given her a coat or hat. It could make it harder to recognize Nancy. Please let me know what I can do remotely to help. Hoping she will be with loved ones soon.

  8. Charlotte, Christine, Val, and I split into two teams of two and went down each side of the park, crossed over, and back up. We talked to staff at the senior center there, who had seen the flyer at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills. She posted a couple and we left a few more with her. Both she and a homeless man that Christine and Charlotte spoke to said the homeless in the park are a kind group and keep an eye out for new people. The homeless man said they hadn't seen her, but of course that's just one data point. The woman at the senior center told us to contact the Park Rangers, a suggestion we phoned in to Dan.

Then we went to Poinsettia Park to the north and spoke to a woman in the office who posted a flyer outside the door. We walked the park and posted more flyers on poles.

I went on to Plummer Park in W. Hollywood and spoke to a security guard and woman at the desk. They were sympathetic but wouldn't allow posting, but they did take some to have at the desk.

Then I went back to the Fairfax Library at the south end of Pan Pacific. The desk folks said that had received an email with the poster PDF, but they clearly hadn't posted it. They gave me the OK and I put one up on the bulletin board in the lobby, and left a few more on the shelves with other flyers.

Back at the house now to grab some lunch. I'm planning to hit some parks in Baldwin Hills this afternoon unless there's a better use of my time.

  10. I posted some flyers on poles going up the road into Culver City park. When I got to the Bone Yard / dog park I saw that someone has previously posted one on their bulletin board. I went up to the baseball field and posted one by the bleachers, thinking they probably have fall ball games this weekend.

Then I walked over to the Baldwin Hills overlook and talked to a nice State Parks employee who said she would post them by the entrances. She asked to be notified when Nancy is found so she can take them down. I walked up to the overlook, and by the time I got back they were up.

I saw a truck there with a California State Parks Peace Officer logo, which is another law enforcement agency we could notify.
