What you don’t know is that she is a graduate of the
University of California-Davis with a Master’s Degree in computer science from
UCLA and is also a certified pilot, an animal lover who almost became a vet, an
experienced hiker and back packer, a devoted fan of Nine Inch Nails, a
passionate conservationist and an accomplished business woman. To her parents, George and Joan, she is the
treasured only child who lights up their lives.
To me, her husband of fourteen years, she is the soul-mate that I’d
never imagined being lucky enough to find.
To her many friends, she is regarded as a stalwart, intelligent,
fun-loving and loyal compadre. Though
many of these outstanding characteristics have been dimmed over the last couple
of years by the progressive toll of her advancing Alzheimer’s disease, she
remains all of these things and we will continue to share the stories that make
her as real to you as she is to us until together we have her safely at home.

Nancy the person
Those of you who have been following this blog because you
know Nancy already understand why so many people are committed to bringing her
home. For those of you who only know her
as a “Missing Person,” we’d like to share a little bit about who she really
is. If you are reading this blog [post]
you already know that Nancy is a middle-aged woman suffering with a form of
Alzheimer’s disease that has robbed her of her ability to communicate and think
in the sharp, clear and compassionate manner that had characterized her prior
life. You have seen the portrait of the woman wearing a red paisley blouse and
blue jeans in the photos on the flyer.
You know that she is 5’7” tall, has a slim build and grey/brown hair.

As a long-time friend, this is a beautiful introduction to Nancy... Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a wonderful description of a lovely human being.
ReplyDeleteYep that's her. I met her through our love of the band NIN and we attended shows together in different states. I'm from New Orleans. After Katrina hit Nancy and Texas NIN friend KT arrived in a car filled with pet food, water and goodies for humans that were stranded during the hurricane. They came early, despite the warnings to "stay out." They brought greasy comfort and cheer and a helping hand when we really needed it here. Nancy is just that person. The one who jumps right in but fully prepared. Please help find her.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this! As someone who has never met Nancy it really touched my heart to have a better understanding of how amazing of a person she is! Makes me understand even more why there are so many people trying to find her!
ReplyDeleteKirk described her perfectly. She is one of the kindest and smartest people I know. One time she and I were trying to schedule a lunch together and we had to work around a few dates because she was committed to taking a friend to his chemo appointments. That's so typical of her xoxox
ReplyDeleteThank you Kirk for making her come alive to those of us who haven't met her with this beautiful description. She seems like such a vibrant, beautiful person and a real bad ass! Lol! This made me tear up as your love for her is just so evident. I know we are going to find her and you will be reunited with your soul mate. Sending hugs

ReplyDeleteI first encountered Nancy online 22 years ago in a NIN Usenet forum. We met in person a few months later, and we became fast friends almost instantly. I met my friend Paris through her in 2005, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina we three bonded for life. It's hard to describe the urgency I feel to know where she is and that she's all right, and even though I'm far away in Texas, I know she has many, many other friends who feel the same way. Stay strong, crew.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been friends with Kirk and Nancy for almost 30 years. Nancy is truly a wonderful person. We share a love of the Broncos, Thai food, beer, and visiting the beach when we have been in California visiting. They have graciously hosted my daughter and son-in-law a few years back when they were in town for a concert. I have enjoyed making jewelry with Nancy. She is such a kind hearted person and we are praying every day she is found safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing about personality of Nancy. Praying for her safe return daily. Offering up Holy Mass and countless Rosaries for her and for all of you. May God bless you strengthen you and help you to be united with her. Love and prayers always. Marta, Francis
ReplyDeleteI was Nancy's RA in the dorm her freshman year. She was cute and friendly -- and then she got straight As as I recall. My research on line showed me she went on to win the top student prize upon graduation?
