- Combing the area on foot, bike, and car
- Passing out flyers and interviewing people, who are extremely sympathetic and often who take photos of the flyer and share them via social media
- Asking for videos that might show Nancy
- Sitting for hours reviewing the videos
- Rushing out to places just to be disheartened that the "tip" that came in turned out to be of little use
- Sharing content from our NancyIsMissing blog and Facebook page
- Dropping by our "command center" with food and emotional support, from morning until night
- Remote volunteers making endless calls to endless bureaucracies to seek information on Nancy
- Keeping the story alive both on social and commercial media so that people know we are still looking for Nancy
However, despite all of this incredible effort, we have no solid / confirmed sightings of Nancy since Saturday, Oct 15 at 3:00 PM at 6221 Wilshire.
We are continually looking for new ideas on approaches to the search. Inevitably, some of the team members have to reduce the amount of time that they can contribute and we have to be smart about how we use the resources we have left.
Our strategies, starting tomorrow, will include
1. Reaching Out to the Community for Help with Reviewing Videos they Control
Our best ideas for steering the strategy are to now emphasize outreach to, and communication with people and businesses that have access to videos of streets or other public areas anywhere in the mid-Wilshire, Hollywood, Baldwin Hills and surrounding areas. We are asking that you review those videos for any sign of Nancy. If there are entities that have a great view of a likely visit area (like along Wilshire, or Fairfax, or 3rd) and are unable to view it themselves, we can explore ways to have a member of our team review the video.
2. Continued Canvassing / Observing
If people are interested, they are still welcome to canvass and/or observe while transiting the areas around LACMA and further out to continue to get the word out through fliers, ask people if they have seen Nancy, and of course, actually looking for her directly. We are going to ask people to take this on themselves and report back to us immediately if there is a sighting or highly credible tip, or to give us a report on where and when they canvassed with a post on Facebook. If you let us know beforehand (preferably again, with a post on Facebook) where you plan to be, we can use you for quick response situations (see below)
3. Quick Reaction Follow-ups
We encounter several situations per day that we like to respond to quickly with a team going to a specific location. So far, we have had great success in sending out a team that is currently available, or redeploying people that are already out. This effort clearly has to continue.
4. Video Review Follow-ups
Finally, we have several places that have promised that video can be made available or reviewed that we have to follow-up on. We'll plan for specific groups to do this.
5. Work with Kimberly Kelly, an incredibly accomplished Search and Rescue Expert
Kimberly is a national expert on finding "wandering" Alzheimer's patients. She has volunteered MANY hours of her to to interview me and member of the team, write a long, detailed report on Nancy with specific advice to police agencies regarding how to best work to find Nancy, and provide invaluable guidance to our efforts. http://www.alzheimersamerica.com/wandering.html
We will continue to push information to local police, check for Jane Does at in hospitals around LA county, and have a staff to answer our "hotline" phones to collect sightings and tips.
Again, I so deeply appreciate all the efforts by ALL of you to help find my wife...
It's you, the people of LA, supported by all the rest of us, who will find Nancy. So please keep looking!
- Kirk
Stru and Peg are here as long as you need us...with love, thoughts, prayers and help with whatever you need. We will find her.

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the KK report, lots of good information! I personally think Nancy is certainly outside the norm in many respects from the typical Alzheimer's patient, we will find her.
ReplyDeleteWe're so close to finding her, I can feel it.
ReplyDeleteI can do QUICK REACTION FOLLOW-UPS anywhere north of Baldwin Hills (South Bay-ers can get to Baldwin Hills faster). I'm happy to go farther afield if needed, of course.
Also, if you need me to REVIEW VIDEOS or do VIDEO REVIEW FOLLOW-UPS, I'm there, too.
This morning, I'm reading Ms. Kelly's report, refreshing all my social media postings, and reaching out again to my Twitterati/Geekerati crowd to request re-postings to their much larger followings.
If you want me to do something else, PLEASE TEXT OR CALL. I'll have my phone with me at all times, with backup battery.
Hugs.
Is there a video of Nancy that you could share? It may help us that don't know her, recognize her gate/outline/mannerisms etc

Also they sell eblasts to their members http://miraclemilechamber.org/e-blasts/
2 questions - a woman similar in description - wearing blue dress, w darkened glasses were crossing Culver Blvd and Centinella (near police station) at 2 pm on Monday - sorry I could not stop. Not sure if it's the same person but she seemed little disoriented when she crossed the busy side walk.
ReplyDeleteCentinela and Culver. That's just came couple of blocks from me. I will certainly keep my eyes peeled to be sure.
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteCan you tell us more about the bus sightings?
What stop/time etc?
Should we ride these two lines?
Do you still need end of the line searches?
