Follow up with news outlets.  At Matt's urging, I just emailed my contacts at the LA Times, and also at City News Service, and Sam Enriquez agreed to follow up. I also contacted Channels 2, 4, 5, and 7 via Facebook and email.  Here is what I sent them more or less. I will follow up if needed.

Earlier this week, the LA Times and several TV stations covered the story of my missing friend, Nancy Paulikas, who has early onset Alzheimers and went missing at LACMA on Saturday.  I am writing to update your news department and suggest there may be a good follow up story that would be of interest to viewers and valuable to the search effort.

If you do not recall, my friend Nancy Paulikas has gone missing.  She is 55, has early onset of Alzheimers, and was an incredibly accomplished software engineer and pilot who lived in Manhattan Beach.  She was so brilliant that she covered the growing effect of the disease for several years, but by last year there was no hiding it, and her deterioration has been very rapid since.

On Saturday pm, she went missing at LACMA.  She slipped away from her family and has not been found since.  She had no money, no purse, no ability to communicate coherently, but was in great physical shape and could be anywhere.  She had an ID bracelet but was apparently very good at finding a way to take it off.

I am following up with you because the search effort has been extraordinary.  As I type there are roughly 30 people fanned out across the city, at hospitals and homeless shelters, in grids around LACMA, even in Skid Row downtown.  it’s a pretty amazing effort led by her husband, a retired engineer and her friends, who are all taking time from their jobs and families to join the search. The effort has been growing with each day, and between the news coverage and social media, many tips (so far unproductive) have been coming int.   It is actually a dramatic thing to observe and perhaps of interest to your readers.  There is a mutual interest here, a good story for viewers and more exposure for the searchers.

You can get a feel for what is happening at this blog.  I believe you can sign in with any google account.

I realize you must get many requests for coverage of this sort of thing, and I know there is a lot of other news out there. But it does seem to me that the scope of this volunteer effort is interesting and inspiring and tragic all at once and perhaps your readers would agree.

You are welcome to contact me at the numbers below, or you can reach the ‘Command Post” (her husband’s home number, where there is someone 24 hour per day coordinating the search effort) directly at 310-650-7965. I can also get you photos and more info about her.

Hi guys! Our other sister has connections at ABC and as of now they are going to run a story on Nancy tonight on the 11:00 pm news. It isn't guaranteed as news item decisions can change last minute but we have a really good chance of making this happen. Keeping our fingers crossed!
