Instructions for people canvassing

Here are what we believe are the best practices for canvassing.

If you are going to call in, please use my land line (310) 796-0933 so as not to tie up the "tip line" phone number.

Please bring a hat, WATER, and if you have masking tape (painters paint is a really fast and effective way to hang flyers), please bring them.

We have printed a bunch of flyers but we keep running out.  If you have a convenient means to print some for yourself, that would be great.  We have found that using a slightly thicker/higher quality paper is very helpful (not necessary, just helpful).

You are welcome to strike out on your own, but of course, coordination is preferred so that we don't use valuable volunteer resources unwisely.  If you could post or call in or email me I can try to get you an area assignment to canvass.

Best practices:

  1. Please hand flyers to people that are most likely to encounter Nancy either because they are in the same spot and will see a lot of people (street vendors/food trucks; security guards, homeless people).
  2. If you would like to post it, eye level at intersections is good.  Right by the "Push to cross" button.  Also facing motorists.
  3. Please post one or more on your car.
  4. Store clerks, asking businesses if they (or you) can put it in their window
  5. Fire Departments (we believe the LAFD is going to disseminate it widely, but it certainly does not hurt to physically hand the flyer to them).
  6. Park Centers/rangers, Senior Centers or the like that are often located in parks.

Also, if you happen to see a security camera, you might ask the proprietors if it is possible to go over the recording looking for Nancy (long shot, but why not?)

  1. Also hand flyers to postmen walking and in trucks, also fire departments they will put in trucks and distribute, construction crews, especially around lacma, any street workers they are out there all day.
