My wife Nancy Paulikas developed early-onset Alzheimer's Disease and has been losing cognitive functioning for the last 2 years. She has lost a great deal of her verbal abilities along with a great deal of other capabilities. She is currently functioning at around the level of a 5 year old, in many ways. We have a support group of friends and relatives that have been very supportive of Nancy during this set of challenges.
On Saturday, 15 October visiting family members and I went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or LACMA, with Nancy. At the end of our tour of some museum exhibits we stopped at the restrooms in the crowded exhibition hall and in the confusion of the crowd we lost track of Nancy when she came out of the bathroom. We searched the local area looking for Nancy, then alerted the museum staff who put out the information to the security. All searched for her and security said they identified her on a security camera leaving the bathroom and walking away.
I contacted the local police. I went driving around with my sister looking for her, so the original police report was given by my sister in-law.
The police got right on it and had an air (helicopter) search, and later a block by block search.
All to no avail. They also contacted local hospitals and other police departments in the area.

Heartbreaking story. Wish I could do something to help but will keep a look out in the local area. Bless you and your family and hoping for the safe return of your wife.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Please spread the word and keep your eyes open!

ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. I hope she's okay.
ReplyDeleteI would ask LACMA and the La Brea Tar Pits to do a very thorough search of the premises, if they haven't already. They should check areas they would not expect a visitor to normally go. They should search every square inch. There was a woman a while back who went missing from a hospital in San Francisco. She had become locked in a stairwell that was never used.
ReplyDeletePraying from Temecula for her safety and that she is found soon...I've shared the post for my L. A. Friends to be on the lookout.
ReplyDeleteI used to work across from LACMA...easy access to parking garages and stairwells. Please check them all..
ReplyDeletePrayers to you and your family. I am a librarian for County of LA and will pass the word. You will find her. Hope and prayers

ReplyDeleteHire a detective immediately! That's what I would do.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, we'll keep a sharp eye out.
We've had a PI working the case since early on, thanks!
DeleteCan you get an Amber Alert issued if there wasn't one already?
ReplyDeleteI just saw the ad in the LA Times. I hope you find her. She sounds like my sister who has PRIMARY PROGRESSIVE APHASIA and was diagnosed by Mario Mendez of UCLA. She says the I'm Stupid thing as well.
Please check the psychiatric wards of the hospitals because the doctors mistake it for schizophrenia because she's in her mid 50s and they don't expect Alzheimer's or dementia (and then gave her 15x the dose of an anti psychotic because she couldn't communicate well--very scary for everyone involved.)
Here's a list of where she was in 2015 https://lydiasftdhouse.com/2015/07/16/odyssey-lydias-busy-2015-schedule/ and she was in Silverlake Medical Center for about 3 weeks in spring 2016. Even with us as advocates, with her medical records and test results, we still encountered doctors who never heard of FTD and didn't know that she wasn't depressed, schizophrenic, etc.
I am so very sorry for your family. You are obviously doing all you can do. Just saw the flyer today at Venice Library and have posted to my Condo Association group on Facebook. You never know who might see her. My prayers to you that you will find her.
ReplyDeleteTHOUGHT: since you recently retired from an aerospace company, do they know about this? All the folks who worked with you all these years would be happy to help and increase your bodies for better success. I'm sure you've thought about this, but just wanted to share......
ReplyDeleteSo many people are with you in so many ways.....you're certainly not alone.

I posted this message on our neighborhood watch. I am praying that Nancy is safe, and will return home. I can't imagine how her family is feeling. The Paulikas family are in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI have been upset over this event and the lack of response to the reality of this issue. I am submitting to enforcement and LACMA a project to make this a NATIONAL News piece. This is far too insane for our technical ability. I am not supposed to talk bad about LAPD but they should of done more and taken this further long ago. I think now is the time that LACMA have a on going FOREVER exhibit on Where's Nancy. That the LA High Schools have a art contest to have posters everywhere. This means common places all grocery markets, all gas stations, all drug stores, and more. We need time to have the posters up and then we need a NANCY DAY where all day is NANCY on radio and tv. More should of been done. I am sending my concept to LACMA LAPD FBI AMAZON Google Mayor LA Times
ReplyDeleteThis shows the disintegration of culture and society. It is a lack of reverence for life in this society that is actually evil.
Has she been found ? This is my husbands coworkers wife and I'm afraid to even ask him, although I am about to
